Este feo pez de apenas cinco centímetros fue descubierto en el Golfo de México en una expedición para comprobar los daños provocados tras la catástrofe de la plataforma petrolífera Deepwater Horizon. El pez, 'Lasiognathus dinema', pertenece al orden de los Lophiiformes, al que también pertenece el rape. Destaca el apéndice sobre su cabeza, que actúa como un señuelo para engullir a sus presas. Posee, literalmente, una caña de pescar.

Explanation: That's not lightning, and it did not strike between those mountains. The diagonal band is actually the central band of our Milky Way Galaxy, while the twin peaks are actually called the Spanish Peaks -- but located in Colorado, USA. Although each Spanish peak is composed of a slightly different type of rock, both are approximately 25 million years old. This serene yet spirited image composite was meticulously created by merging a series of images all taken from the same location on one night and early last month. In the first series of exposures, the background sky was built up, with great detail being revealed in the Milky Way dust lanes as well as the large colorful region surrounding the star Rho Ophiuchus just right of center. One sky image, though, was taken using a fogging filter so that brighter stars would appear more spread out and so more prominent. As a bonus, the planets Mars and Saturn are placed right above peaks and make an orange triangle with the bright star Antares. Later that night, after the moonrise, the Moon itself  naturally illuminated the snow covered mountain tops.

Este caballito del diablo de Gabón es una de las 60 nuevas especies descubiertas en el último año por un grupo investigador en África. Su nombre en latín, 'Umma gumma', homenajea al cuarto álbum de estudio de la banda británica Pink Floyd, Ummagumma, que además es un término empleado por los estudiantes en Cambridge para referirse al sexo.

Vencedor da taça de Portugal, Braga recebido em euforia por milhares de pessoas

O Sporting de Braga foi recebido com grande euforia, na madrugada desta segunda-feira, por milhares de adeptos na Praça do Município depois da conquista da Taça de Portugal de futebol, 50 anos após a primeira.

Eram 03:30 quando a comitiva ‘arsenalista’, transportada num autocarro panorâmico, entrou naquela praça do centro da cidade, em frente do edifício da Câmara Municipal de Braga, epicentro da festa minhota após a conquista da segunda Taça de Portugal da história do clube.

Os milhares de pessoas presentes, um autêntico ‘mar vermelho’, ovacionaram todos, com especial destaque para o ‘capitão’ Alan, o treinador Paulo Fonseca e o presidente António Salvador.

“Foi preciso muita ambição, união e superação para ultrapassar uma grande equipa, o FC Porto, que foi um digno vencido. O futuro é já no dia 7 de agosto, mais uma final, a Supertaça, troféu que queremos trazer para Braga”, disse António Salvador aos adeptos.

O dirigente salientou o “enorme orgulho” na conquista da Taça de Portugal e disse que “o futuro é trabalhar todos os dias” para fazer crescer o clube.

“Isso passa por tentar voltar ao Jamor na próxima época e trazer de novo a Taça. Paulo Fonseca? Este é um projeto de dois anos e contamos com ele”, disse.

O plantel, equipa técnica e dirigentes do Sporting de Braga vão ser recebidos no Salão Nobre da Câmara Municipal de Braga pelas 17:00 de hoje.

O Sporting de Braga venceu no domingo o FC Porto por 4-2 no desempate por grandes penalidades (2-2 após prolongamento).

Explanation: Why is there more matter than antimatter in the Universe? To better understand this facet of basic physics, energy departments in China and the USA led in the creation of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. Located under thick rock about 50 kilometers northeast of Hong Kong, China, eight Daya Bay detectors monitor antineutrinos emitted by six nearby nuclear reactors. Featured here, a camera looks along one of the Daya Bay detectors, imaging photon sensors that pick up faint light emitted by antineutrinos interacting with fluids in the detector. Early results indicate an unexpectedly high rate of one type of antineutrino changing into another, a rate which, if confirmed, could imply the existence of a previously undetected type of neutrino as well as impact humanity's comprehension of fundamental particle reactions that occurred within the first few seconds of the Big Bang.
