Astronomy picture of the day - 2015 December 17 - Geminids of the South

Explanation: Earth's annual Geminid meteor shower did not disappoint, peaking before dawn on December 14 as our fair planet plowed through dust from active asteroid 3200 Phaethon. Captured in this southern hemispherenightscape the meteors stream away from the shower's radiant in Gemini. To create the image, many individual frames recording meteor streaks were taken over period of 5 hours. In the final composite they were selected and registered against the starry sky above the twin 6.5 meter Magellan telescopes of Carnegie Las Campanas Observatory in Chile. Rigel in Orion, and Sirius shine brightly as the Milky Way stretches toward the zenith. Near Castor and Pollux the twin stars of Gemini, the meteor shower's radiant is low, close to the horizon. The radiant effect is due to perspective as the parallel meteor tracks appear to converge in the distance. Gemini's meteors enter Earth's atmosphere traveling at about 22 kilometers per second.

Reposição de feriados volta ao parlamento a 8 de janeiro
A discussão e votação na generalidade dos projetos de vários partidos para a reposição de feriados voltam ao parlamento a 8 de janeiro, depois de a questão ter sido adiada em novembro, foi acordado, esta quarta-feira, em conferência de líderes.
Os projetos regressam ao parlamento na primeira semana de janeiro de 2016, após a consulta pública sobre o tema, que motivou o adiamento da discussão em plenário no mês de novembro.
Todos os partidos têm em cima da mesa iniciativas legislativas para a reposição de feriados.
Em 2012, com efeitos a partir de 2013, o Governo de então, de PSD e CDS-PP, suprimiu quatro feriados: dois religiosos, o de Corpo de Deus em junho (feriado móvel), e o dia 1 de novembro, dia de Todos os Santos, e dois civis, 5 de Outubro, Implantação da República, e no 1.º de Dezembro, Restauração da Independência.
A conferência de líderes parlamentares agendou hoje os trabalhos de plenário para as duas primeiras semanas de janeiro.

Astronomy picture of the day - 2015 December 16 - The Horsehead Nebula

Explanation: The Horsehead Nebula is one of the most famous nebulae on the sky. It is visible as the dark indentation to the red emission nebula in the center of the above photograph. The horse-head feature is dark because it is really an opaque dust cloud that lies in front of the bright red emission nebula. Like clouds in Earth's atmosphere, this cosmic cloud has assumed a recognizable shape by chance. After many thousands of years, the internal motions of the cloud will surely alter its appearance. The emission nebula's red color is caused by electrons recombining with protons to form hydrogen atoms. On the image left is the Flame Nebula, an orange-tinged nebula that also contains filaments of dark dust. Just to the lower left of the Horsehead nebula featured picture is a blueish reflection nebulae that preferentially reflects the blue light from nearby stars.

bizarros, se possa imaginar uma Sociedade futura justa e desinfectada de todos
e quaisquer bichos que, tais cucos, têm a faculdade de se aclimatar seja em que Pais for.
Já em tempos afirmamos que a actual €uropa só interessa
ao capital. Nos tempos de Jean Monnet, parece ter sido criada, com sinceridade, uma entidade
cujo objectivo principal seria poupar os
Povos à guerra.
Que resta hoje do nobre propósito? As guerras
continuam a assolar o espaço europeu; os emigrantes muçulmanos persistem na sua insidiosa invasão, agredindo e tentando prevertir a Sociedade ocidental...

povos ocidentais a adoptarem medidas de auto-defesa, porventura exageradas, na
defesa da sua cultura, Historia e tradições…

Astronomy picture of the day - 2015 December 15 - Colorful Arcs over Buenos Aires

Explanation: What are those colorful arcs in the sky? Like rainbows that are caused by rain, arcs of sunlight broken up into component colors can also result when ice crystals floating in Earth's atmosphere act together as a giganticprism. The top color arc is more typical as it is part of the 22 degree halo surrounding the Sun when hexagonal ice crystals refract sunlight between two of the six sides. More unusual, though, is the bottom color arc. Sometimes called a fire rainbow, this circumhorizon arc is also created by ice, not fire nor even rain. Here, a series of horizontal, thin, flat ice crystals in high cirrus clouds refract sunlight between the top and bottom faces toward the observer. These arcsonly occur when the Sun is higher than 58 degrees above the horizon. The featured sky occurred to the northwest in the early afternoon last month over a street Diagonal of La Plata City, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
